A vegan reworking of our classic, Tamaulipeka transports you directly to the orchards of Tamaulipas, Mexico.
Tropical tamarind, smoked chiles and earthy aromatics produce a melody of sweet and savory flavors with medium to hot heat. This sauce owes its richness to a smooth oil-blended base. With its bold flavors, Tamaulipeka is perfect for marinating pork or for spreading on a torta, Tamaulipas-style.
Ingredients: Non-gmo corn oil, chili peppers, tamarind concentrate (tamarind pulp, water, maple sugar), distilled white vinegar reduced to 4% acidity, garlic, celery, onion, salt
Size: 5 oz
Most delicious hot sauce ever!!!
I cannot tell you how awesome this sauce is because it blends two very near and dear tastes into one bottle for me. as a korean-american growing up in LA, I was exposed to many different culture's foods esp. mexican, indian, and asian foods. this sauce reminds me of those great tastes from the mild, the sweet, and the spicy in one sauce. I use this sauce every opportunity i see fit. it has replaced salsa when i make or bring home tacos or burritos. I use it on my eggs in the morning. If i make baked chicken, i grab for the tamaulipeka. we hope to see the co-owners again on the pop up show circuit (my wife is a vendor and that's how i met the owners) in texas again. oh and though it was difficult to part with one of the three that i bought, i gifted one to a friend in houston and hope that he becomes a diehard customer too!
Thanks so much Bob! BTW, we are available locally in Austin at Thom's Market, all 3 locations, so be sure to stop in there if you need an emergency re-up!
This hot sauce is the perfect combination of sweet and spicy. It has a strong but pleasant burn with the sweet and slightly tangy taste of tamarind. I use this on everything, but it is especially good on hot wings.
I've been cooking more at home and being more mindful of what Im eating. 80% of the time, my dishes are delightful but i'm still learning. So i've been experimenting with creating different marinades and making my meals more delightful so that i don't resort to the usual takeout just to ease my hunger. I used to go to Cantina Royale many moons ago and loved their different salsas, so was super stoked when i found out they were making hot sauce.
There are hot sauces that are bandaids, if you will, something to make a bland dish palatable, to make it worth all the delivery fees. To me - This sauce isn't for bland food. This sauce is no bandage, its a cure. It makes you want to eat better; to respect yourself by respecting what you eat. It's an experience. a dollop of sauce - it hits your tongue in a smoky little package. Then , theres the heat. and as the heat slowly fills your mouth theres a whisper of sweetness that weaves through the heat and and takes little bites of the smokiness until they are one. and the aroma - it lingers a few inches above the dish and its a gloss on the lips. I use it for my marinades and recently i've been making a corn bread pudding square dish (i'm not a chef - don't know what to call it) the pairing of this and corn, is the highlight of my summer. This sauce makes me want to be a better cook. It makes me want to be a better person.
The problem is with this hot sauce is that it doesn’t come in a big enough size. We go through it too quick! A wider container would also help with the oil separation. Just make a bigger container!
